Visit Castellana Grotte
The Castellana caves are an unmissable opportunity to witness the natural beauty of the karst phenomenon, very widespread in Puglia. Descending into the caves you can catapult yourself into rocky and tortuous abysses, punctuated by concretions with incredible shapes and colors, stalactites and stalagmites that grow about 1 cm every 50 years and that give the place a magical and fairytale aura. In the area there are several caves: in Castellana, in Putignano, near Alberobello.
About the tour
There are two possible tours of your choice:
- the caves of the Castellana area where PlacenPeople organizers can accompany you to the entrance, but subsequently it will be necessary to pay an entrance price and rely on a local speleologist;
- the particular caves of the trulli in the Putignano area, where it is possible to go directly into the caves with the guide organizer, equipped with tracksuits and other gear provided by him (here are all our tours in the caves in Puglia).
Costs
The participation fee for a cultural (walking) tour is € 25 per person and includes the supply of equipment (tracksuit, to get off without damaging your clothes).
Duration and Period
The tour lasts approximately 2 hours and the organizers often have different departure times available (9.30 - 12.30 - 2.30pm - 6.30pm). We recommend spending no more than half a day on the spot, so it is better to include the activity within a two-stage day tour (see tour of 2 locations). Our organizers are available to offer - often free of charge - a ride by car (in the case of a few people) or to organize transport by bus or minibus (in the case of groups). Available all year round.
Available places
Tours generally start with groups of 2 to 10 participants. Usually a single person can join an already created group, but it's necessary to ask for the availability.
